Ruth Jones, much loved, multi-talented, actress and script writer, was born and brought up in South Wales. Her acting talent was apparent at a very young age when she starred as Eliza Doolittle in a school production of ‘My Fair Lady’.
Educated at Porthcawl Comprehensive School, Ruth then went on to the University of Warwick, where she graduated in 1988. A member of the National Youth Theatre of Wales as a teenager, she trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. After graduating, Ruth found it so extremely difficult to get a break in the theatre that she considered giving up acting to train as a solicitor. Luckily for her legions of fans, Ruth’s devotion to her chosen path persisted. Her innate brilliance slowly gained the recognition it deserved, culminating in a succession of awards in 2007; which gathered momentum in 2008 and looks certain to continue in the future
Although the indefatigable talent that is Ruth Jones has numerous credits to her name she is, undoubtedly, best known as the inimitable Nessa from the phenomenally successful show Gavin and Stacey. Not just a star of the BBC’s multi-award winning show, she co-wrote it with fellow actor, James Corden.
Among her other accomplished television credits are: the poetic pint puller, Myfanwy, in ‘Little Britain’; ‘Nighty Night’; ‘Fat Friends’; ‘Tales from Pleasure Beach’; ‘Saxondale’; ‘Human Remains’; Joan Durbeyfield, the heroine’s mother in the BBC adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel, ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ and the delightful Flora Finching in ‘Little Dorrit.
The diverse talent of Ruth Jones took yet another path when, late in 2008, she had her own series for BBC Radio Wales. ‘Ruth Jones’ Sunday Brunch’. This programme, produced by Tidy Productions, was a huge success. It was during a live outside broadcast of her show that Ruth and James Corden jointly announced that there would be a third series of ‘Gavin and Stacey’. The crowd at this O.B. went wild.
Ruth currently lives with her husband David and family in Cardiff. Despite her busy schedule, both on and off television, her enviable aptitude for scriptwriting has not been forsaken and she has a number of projects underway.
With no end to this incredible artiste’s talent Ruth Jones, along with Rob Brydon, have teamed up with the ‘Sex Bomb’ himself, Tom Jones, to release this year’s single for Comic Relief.
Ruth is very much in demand for corporate events. However, due to her high level of commitment to acting and writing, she is not often available. If you want to book Ruth for an event, please make early contact to find out ‘What’s Occurring’………
