Rebecca John

Rebecca John is a popular and experienced reporter and presenter on the television news programme, BBC Wales Today.

Rebecca has a passion for languages and studied French and German at Cambridge University. She has also learnt Welsh and has appeared on the S4C programme, Welsh in a Week. Her love of language and attention to detail have earned her the title of Wales Today’s unofficial ‘grammar tsar’.

After graduating, Rebecca did a postgraduate diploma in bi-media journalism in Leeds and her first job was as a news reporter and presenter at Swansea Sound radio station. She moved to the newsroom at BBC Wales in 1995, working in radio news for the first three years, before moving into television.

Rebecca started her television career producing and reporting for the BBC News Channel from Wales. She then became a news presenter on BBC Choice Wales and Wales at Eleven, which was part of Newsnight. She started reporting and presenting for BBC Wales Today in 1999.

Rebecca has reported from across Wales and has been based in Bangor, Carmarthen and Swansea. She reported live on the emerging foot and mouth crisis on Anglesey for the BBC News Channel and appeared live on Newsnight during the fuel protests in Pembrokeshire. She was one of the first reporters on the scene of the Corus explosion in Port Talbot, covering the story for BBC Wales Today and 5 Live. 

Rebecca has a warm, friendly and engaging personality and enjoys meeting people from all walks of life.  She is intelligent and professional with a good sense of humour and is a popular speaker and host.

She is originally from Bridgend and lives in Cardiff with her husband and their two children.
