Rachel Flanagan

Rachael wanted to leave College at 16. She had no idea what she wanted to do but fate intervened when, one day, their domestic cleaner did not turn up and Rachael offered to do the cleaning for her mother. She found that she enjoyed it and started cleaning for friends and neighbours. There seemed to be a good deal of interest in the service she offered so she invested just £20 to have flyers printed and distributed them around the houses in her locality. The response was better than Rachael anticipated and she was inundated with enquiries so decided to rope in some carefully chosen staff to help.

Through sheer hard work and good business acumen, four years on Rachael has a staff of 32 and has proved she has great business instincts. She treats her carefully selected and well trained staff really well, paying them above the going rate. She does not ask them to do anything she is not prepared to do herself – she would not wear the usual tabard herself and does not ask her staff to – she has their respect and loyalty.

Rachael has created an impressive management team who run the day to day business now, enabling her to work 'on the business not in it'! Rachael's vibrant personality is a real asset in keeping existing clients and getting new ones.

Rachael won the Federation of Small Businesses 'UK Young Entrepreneur of the Year' 2008 and Adult 'Achiever of the Year' 2009.

Rachael is not one to rest on her laurels; she continues to drive the business forward, now offering gardening services and widow cleaning. She has also teamed up with tradesmen with a proven track record to offer a full range of services. She is presently studying for her MA in Business – not bad for a girl who failed her Business Studies at A-level.

Rachael is a fascinating and inspirational speaker and the enthusiasm for business she displays is infectious.
